PUERTO RICO - PDA Alumni and Providence College senior men’s soccer midfielder Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.J.), who also plays for Puerto Rico’s national team, scored his team’s goal in a 2-1 loss against the defending World Cup and European champion, Spain on Wednesday, August 15.
It marked Cintron’s international debut as Puerto Rico was defeated. Cintron’s goal came in the 65th minute as he was able to race past Spanish defender Sergio Ramos and fired a right-footed shot from 18 yards out and past goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Cintron, who was named to the MAC Herman Trophy Watch List on August 13, earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors in 2011 and was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team. Cintron finished third on the team in scoring with 11 points on three goals and a team-high five assists in 2011. Nine of his 11 points came in BIG EAST Conference matches. Most recently, Cintron was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Conference Team on August 6.
